Episode Notes

Episode 11: Your Rebellious Child Has Too Many Privileges

Why are parents continuing to pay for cell phones, gaming systems, Internet access, vehicles, entertainment, and social activities while their children remain openly disrespectful, disobedient, and irresponsible?

In this episode, Pastor Joseph explains the important difference between necessities and privileges. Parents have a responsibility to provide food, shelter, clothing, medical care, education, safety, love, and spiritual guidance. However, optional comforts and freedoms should be connected to obedience, responsibility, honesty, and trust.

Weekly Challenge: The Privilege Reset

Make two lists: necessities you are responsible to provide and optional privileges you currently fund or permit. Then ask:

  1. Has my child demonstrated enough responsibility to handle this privilege?
  2. Is this privilege strengthening or undermining the character we are trying to build?
  3. What clear standard should govern continued access to it?

Choose one or two areas that need to change. Explain the expectations calmly, define the path toward restoration, and follow through consistently.

You are not removing love—you are restoring meaning to privilege. Stop financing rebellion, stop rewarding disrespect, and let privileges follow responsibility.
